1st Form Trip: Battle of Britain Bunker

19 November 2021

On Thursday, our 1st Formers had the opportunity to learn more about WW2 when they visited the Battle of Britain Bunker, Hillingdon. Why was it so successful, what exactly happened, and what role the bunker itself played were all questions they had answered.

The boys started by exploring the bunker and handling artefacts that were used; they made brilliant posters on what the purpose of these tools were and what they were called. Ma’am Barratt was particularly shocked to discover that almost none of the boys knew how to use a traditional dial telephone (it turns out that simply tapping the buttons doesn’t work!).

After having lunch together, 1st Form moved on to the Visitor’s Centre where the brilliant guide taught them even more. He explained what planes and weapons were used and the boys got a close look at various bullets used throughout the war.

The boys had a brilliant day out, and learnt a lot to enhance their understanding in the classroom. We look forward to more trips throughout the year.
